Falcons Open 2022 Season At BSU Bears Invite

Bailey paces Falcons with pair of top conference marks 

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team opened its 2022 season this afternoon, competing at the 2022 BSU Bears Invitational at Swenson Field.

How It Happened

Freshman Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way for the Green and Gold, placed third overall in the discus (32.93m) and in the shot put (10.33m) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events, while graduate student Natasha McInnis (Leominster, Mass.) put forth a strong showing in the 100 meter, finishing third overall with a post-season qualifying time of 13.05 seconds.

In the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) (18th) and junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (21st) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 18.74 seconds and 19.64 seconds, while junior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) turned in a solid seventh place time of 2:37.76 in the 800 meter to qualify for the post season.

In the 200 meter, freshman Marjorie Veliotis (Stoughton, Mass.) (31.83) and junior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.) (34.10) placed 49th and 57th respectively, while Veliotis added a 33rd place finish in the 400 meter with a time of 1:11.58.

In the 400 meter hurdles, junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (10th) and classmate Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (11th) posted times of 1:34.00 and 1:38.66 in the 400 meter hurdles, while in the 3000 meter steeplechase, junior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) (14:31.47) and Brouillet (17:48.22) placed third and fourth respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay team of McInnis, Aubuchon, Veliotis and Camara posted a fifth place time of 54.23, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Veliotis, McAndrew, Brouliette and Murphy finished 13th overall with a time of 5:10.48.

In the field, Camara placed seventh overall in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.52 meters to set a new PR, while Donelan added an 18th place effort in the triple jump with mark of 8.40 meters. In the shot put, freshman Asha Speller (8.38) placed 17th to qualify for the post-season.

In the discus, Speller (8th) notched another MASCAC qualifying toss of 29.58m (PR), while in the hammer throw, Bailey (22.45m), sophomore Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (19.33m) and Speller (17.04m) finished 20th, 23rd and 26th to round out the top Falcons effort on the afternoon.
