Camara notches pair of third place effort to lead the way for the

New London, CT – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field placed 11th overall with a total of 24 points at the 2024 Silfen Invitational this weekend, hosted by Connecticut College.

How It Happened

Senior Makany Camara (Lowell, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing third overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.73 seconds, while adding a third place effort of 1.52 meters in the high jump and a seventh place finish of 4.95 meters in the long jump.

Junior Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, MN) was also solid for the Falcons, finishing second overall in discus (36.14M), 25th in the hammer throw (27.60M) and seventh in the shotput (10.59M).

Freshman Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) placed 16th in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a time of 14:55.05, while in the 1500 meter, junior Julia Arena (Shrewsbury, MA) turned in a 50th place time of 6:24.80.

In the 5000 meter, sophomore Skye Goba (Norton, MA) posted a 25th place time of 20:20.91, while sophomore Trishannah Scott (Leominster, MA) (17th) and classmate Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, CT) (28th) posted times of 1:06.02 and 1:11.21 in the 400 meter.

Boulware McKnight (55th) and sophomore Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA) (56th) notched times of 30.41 and 30.62 seconds in the 200 meter, while Velez added a 39th place time of 14.49 seconds in the 100 meter.

In the field, sophomore Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, MA) (16th), freshman Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) (18th) and senior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, MA) (23rd) registered tosses of 32.50M, 31.90M and 28.40M in the hammer throw, while in the discus, Crout (24.41M) and Israelson (24.19M) finished 17th and 26th overall.

In the shotput, Crout (9.70M), Israelson (8.90M) and Kephart (8.88M) placed 13th, 17th and 18th respectively, while Scott added a tenth place effort of 9.16 meters in the triple jump. Israelson posted a 26th place throw of 17.23 meters in the javelin, while Boulware McKnight turned in a 20th place mark of 4.34 meters in the long jump. Sophomore Aria DiCato (Fitchburg, MA) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, finishing 14th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:18.36.
