Falcons Capture 3rd Place at Maple Syrup Challenge

Randolph, VT. – The Fitchburg State women's cross country team placed third at the Maple Syrup Challenge hosted by Vermont Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Place: 3rd place, 84 points (11 Teams)

How It Happened

  • The Falcons had a strong outing placing four runners in the top 20. Senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) had another strong start pacing the Falcons with a top time of 21:22.50, followed by classmate Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) (21:47.62)
  • The Green and Gold had back-to-back finishes at the 16th and 17th slot. Senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) crossed the finish line at 22:37.62, just four seconds before teammate Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.)
  • Newcomer Diana Marquez-Frias (Lowell, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the visitors with a 30th place finish and a time of 25:02.11
  • Other Finisher: Senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) 31:54.24
  • Middlebury won the meet with a total of 19 points. Saint Michael's finished in second (59 points), while Fitchburg State rounded out the top three (84 points).
