Fitchburg State Soars At James Early Meet

Amaral and Hastings guide Falcons to fifth place finish 

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's cross country placed fifth overall with a total of 207 points at the 2016 James Early Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park this afternoon.

Junior Brian Amaral paced the Falcons, placing tenth overall with a time of 25:56.83 over the 8K course, while classmate Jake Hastings crossed the finish line in 13th place with a solid time of 25:59.64.

Sophomore Anthony Darrigo was next for the Green and Gold, turning in a time of 26:42.02 to place 35th overall, while fellow sophomore Joseph Darrigo followed in 71st place with time of 27:22.4.

Senior Matthew Cuomo entered the chute with time of 27:37.51, while classmate Michael Martin (29:19.43) and newcomer Troy Hoyt (29:24.97) rounded out the top efforts for Fitchburg State on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men's cross country team returns to action on Friday as it completes in the 2016 Saints Invitational, hosted by Emmanuel College at Franklin Park in Boston for a 4 p.m. start.
