Fitchburg State Soccer Lands Five On All-Conference List

Men’s soccer names earns one All-Conference second team nomination; Women’s soccer place four on post-season honor list

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 3, 2010) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s soccer programs landed five players on the 2010 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.

The Fitchburg State ladies squad paved the way with four All-Conference nominations, while the Fitchburg State men earned one, solo accolade. Junior Hannah Mitchell (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) led the Falcons with a MASCAC All-Conference first team honor, while senior Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Westminster), classmate Katie Hayward (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex), freshman Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster), and rookie Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) all earned second team nods.


HANNAH MITCHELL

Mitchell, a three-year member of the Fitchburg State women’s soccer program, collects her first career post-season honor after leading the Falcons to an overall record of 9-8-1 this season and a 3-4-0 clip in the MASCAC. Mitchell appeared in all 18 games for Fitchburg State this season, serving a primary role on the Falcons backline. She totaled one assist throughout the year, while aiding the Falcons to a minimal 1.51 goals against average.

Kirouac joins Mitchell as part of the Fitchburg State, All-Conference defensive tandem. Kirouac, a rookie from Leominster, Mass., earned her first post-season selection after leading the Falcons between the pipes. Over ten games played, Kirouac notched a team-best 0.89 goals against average with 36 saves, a .837 save percentage and two shutouts. The rookie net-minder logged 707 minutes throughout the season and ranked second in the MASCAC with only seven goals allowed.

In the midfield, veteran Katie Hayward earns her first All-Conference honor after posting a strong season as the Falcons center midfielder. Hayward was tenacious on both sides of the ball, ranking fifth on the team in scoring with a career high seven points. She totaled a career-best three assists to go with a pair of markers, while also playing a primary role on the defensive end.

Rounding out the Fitchburg State women’s soccer award winners is freshman Rachel Jamieson. Jamieson registered a strong rookie campaign, leading the Falcons in scoring with a team-best 19 points. The first-year forward tallied a team-high nine goals and one assist, while notching five game-winning goals. She ranked fifth in the league in scoring, while ranking third overall in goals scored.

On the men’s’ side, senior Lionso Ventura collects his third consecutive All-Conference second team nomination after leading the Fitchburg State men’s soccer program in scoring for the second straight year. This season, Ventura totaled a team-high 17 points on eight goals and one assist. He has appeared in 45 contests throughout his three-year career, totaling 46 points with 21 goals, four game-winning markers and four assists.

The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team concluded its 2010 campaign last Saturday, notching an overall record of 4-13-0 and a 1-6-0 mark in the MASCAC.
