Fitchburg State Names Eleven To Spring All-Conference List

WLAX, BSB, SB and TRACK all earn MASCAC and NEWLA post-season honors

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 3, 2012) – The Fitchburg State athletic department named 11 players to the Spring All-Conference list as announced by the respective MASCAC and NEWLA conferences on Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons baseball and softball teams each named two players to the MASCAC All-Conference team, while the men’s and women’s track and field squads had three members earn nominations. The Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team rounded out the list of honorees with four NEWLA All-Conference selections.

Leading the way for the Falcons softball team was junior outfielder Alycia McGrail (N. Brookfield, Mass./N. Brookfield) and freshman utility player Victoria Brinkley (Guilfod, Conn./Guilford), both of whom earned MASCAC All-Conference first team honors. Juniors Matt Zajac (New Hartford, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic) and Chris Rivera (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) were selected to the MASCAC All-Conference second team for baseball, while senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse), junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and sophomore Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) all brought home MASCAC Track & Field All-Conference accolades in their respective events.

On the lacrosse field, Fitchburg State earned three first team honors as senior Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and junior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) anchored the forward positions and senior Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) locked down a defensive spot. Sophomore Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) also collected a second team award at the midfield position.

The Fitchburg State softball team, baseball team and women’s lacrosse team all concluded their 2012 seasons this past week, while the men’s and women’s track teams will be in action on Saturday as they compete at the Division III New England Championships.
