Falcons honor Special Olympic athletes with closing ceremony at McKay Field
FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 30, 2012) – The Fitchburg State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently hosted the 2012 Special Olympic closing ceremonies, honoring the young athletes of the Special Olympics at McKay Field.
The Special Olympic young athlete program is a program designed to prepare athletes for future competition in the Special Olympics. Each participating athlete trained each and every Sunday, leading up to the competition, focusing on many skills, including balancing, kicking, throwing and catching.
At the ceremonies, members of the Fitchburg State Student Athlete Advisory Committee were in attendance, assisting the young athletes as they performed their skills through events such as hopscotch, bowling, balance beam and more. Competitions were arranged with an obstacle course fashion as friends and families cheered on the athletes. For their efforts, each athlete received a medal and t-shirt.
