Buccaneers Defeat Fitchburg State in Saturday Doubleheader

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers (20-12 overall, 7-5 MASCAC) swept the Falcons of Fitchburg State (10-21 overall, 3-11 MASCAC) Saturday in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference doubleheader with wins of 7-2 and 9-0.

Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, CT) got things going for the Bucs in the bottom of the third of game one with a solo home run as MMA went on to plate three runs. The Falcons bounced back in the top of the fifth with a couple, but the Bucs put it away in the bottom of the frame with four more.

Joe Albano (Agawam, MA) finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate for the Bucs with three RBI and a run scored. Neil Gendron (Salem, MA) led the way for FSC going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Billy Martin (Virginia Beach, VA) picked up the win for MMA in five innings of work. He allowed two runs on four hits. David Hike (Riverview, FL) came on in relief pitching the final two frames allowing one hit and striking out two.

Kris Breen (Griswold, CT) took the loss for the Falcons allowing seven earned runs on six hits.

MMA scored once in the first and three times in the second on the way to a 9-0 victory in game two. Bob Weber (Norwell, MA) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Alex Foley (Andover, MA) was 2-for-2 with four RBI and a run scored. Mozelak ended game two 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Andrew Sauer (Wilmington, CT) led the way for the Falcons going 2-for-3, while also being tagged with the loss. Sauer went four innings giving up six runs, five of which were earned on seven hits. He walked three and struckout three.

Nick Levitre (Grafton, MA) earned the win for the Buccaneers in a complete game effort. Levitre allowed just five hits, while striking out two.
