Suffolk Runs Past Fitchburg State, 19-6

Breen connects for three hits in Falcons non-conference fall

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 7, 2009) - Senior Kris Breen (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) totaled three hits for the Fitchburg State baseball team but the Falcons fell to Suffolk University, 19-6 in non-conference action this afternoon.

Breen led the Fitchburg State offense with a 3-for-5 performance in the contest, including a run scored and one RBI, while junior Ricky Graham (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and freshman Michal Mercier (Townsend, Mass./Saint Bernards) each finished 2-for-4 with a pair of base-hits. Sophomore Will Comerford (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) was also solid with two hits and one RBI.

Suffolk junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, Mass./Worcester Academy) led all hitters, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI, while sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, Mass./Rever) went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Junior Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) was also strong for the Rams, adding three hits, one run and one RBI.

Suffolk used a seven run sixth inning to grab a commanding 13-2 lead and clinch its 16th victory of the season. Senior Keith Carter (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) propelled the Rams seven run explosion with a two RBI double, while Barrett connected for an RBI single to plate two. Kenneally and junior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) aided the Rams scoring surge with RBI singles.

Sophomore Steve Donah (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) suffered the loss for the Falcons (1-1), yielding five earned runs and six walks (4 HBP) in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore Jon Handy (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) earned the victory for the Rams, allowing only one earned run over six strong innings on the hill.

Fitchburg State (11-8, 1-3 MASCAC) will be back in action tomorrow as it hosts Fisher College at 3:30 p.m. Suffolk (16-4, 5-1 GNAC) will host Roger Williams University tomorrow at 4 p.m.
