SUNY-Canton Tops Fitchburg State, 5-2

Drury, Hans and Beaulieu notch two hits in Falcons non-conference setback

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 14, 2014) – The Fitchburg State baseball team fell victim to three unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning as it fell to SUNY-Canton, 5-2 in non-conference action at Kathleen High School.

The Falcons received a strong pitching performance from freshman Jake Kelley (N. Chelmsford, Mass.) who did not factor in the decision, tossing 7.1 innings of two run baseball. The rookie right-hander yielded seven hits and one walk, while striking out six.

At the plate, Fitchburg State out-hit the Kangaroos, 10-9 with freshman Steven Drury, Jr. (Ashburnha, Mass.) leading the way with a 2-for-4 day (double). Junior Pierce Hans (Washington Township, N.J.) was also strong with a 2-for-5 performance, double and one RBI, while Clayton Beaulieu (Chicopee, Mass.) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and one RBI.

Fitchburg State (8-3, 0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Monday as it battles Rivier College at 3:30 p.m.
