Falcons Fall Short to Nichols on Senior Day, 8-2

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State University baseball was defeated by Nichols College, 8-2 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Riccards Field on Senior Day. Senior centerfielder Pierce Hans went 2-4 with two runs scored in the setback.

With the loss the Falcons finish the regular season with a 12-18 record, while the Bison end the campaign with a 7-19-1 mark.

Nichols tacked on their first two runs in the top of the second on an RBI double to the right center gap by Matt Hardy, who then later came in to score on an infield single by Cam Cook.

In the bottom of the fourth the Green & Gold would cut the deficit in half with a single to left field by Steve Martel that drove in Hans.

Nichols went on to add six runs between the sixth and eighth inning to extend their advantage to sevens runs (8-1).

The Falcons would not give up without a fight as they added a run in the bottom of the ninth on a single down the left field line be senior Dalton Wheeler to bring home Hans from second.

Donnell Hightower suffered the setback on the bump in 1.1 innings of work, while Andrew Currie tossed 4.1 innings of relief, yielding one earned run on one hit and one strikeout.

For the Bison Zach Morgillo went the distance tossing all nine innings with two earned runs and two strikeouts..

Prior to the contest seniors Clayton Beaulieu, Hans, Ryan Magni, and Wheeler were recognized for their contributions to the program

#6 Fitchburg State will travel to Sterling Cup rival the third-seeded Worcester State in the opening round of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference (MASCAC) tournament on Thursday. First pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
