NORTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University baseball team lost a non-conference game at Wheaton College on Monday afternoon by the final score of 23-7. Wheaton improved to 16-6 on the season, while Fitchburg State fell to 8-14.

The Falcons scored their first run in the top of the 7th inning on an RBI single down the right field line by senior Brendan Cutler.  Fitchburg State then went on to plate six more runs in the top of the 8th frame.  The inning was highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Andrew Currie.  Both junior Sam Brown and sophomore Drew Mazzeo drew bases loaded walks to force in runs, and the visitors also received a RBI ground out from Cutler.

Currie finished the day going 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.  Freshman Evan Meleedy started and took the loss for Fitchburg State, dropping his record to 1-2 on the season.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
