Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University baseball team captured the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title for the first time in school history, and will host the MASCAC Championship this weekend (May 14-15) earning the No. 1 seed.

The Falcons finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-10 and a MASCAC conference record of 7-3. After dropping the first two conference games of the season, the Green and Gold rounded out the season with six straight wins to earn the coveted title.

The Falcons will host No. 2 seed Salem State in a best-of-three series on Friday-Saturday, May 14-15.

Two games are scheduled for Friday at Fitchburg with first pitch scheduled for noon. Should the two teams split the doubleheader on Friday, a third and deciding game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Head Coach Shawn Manfredo, in his second season leads a powerful Fitchburg State team. Zachary May (Rochdale, Mass.) is one of Fitchburg's biggest bats as he led the team in hits (26), home runs (3), and RBI (20). The latter two numbers were tops in the league. He batted .377 on the year and scored 19 runs. Matthew Ambrosino (Bradenton, Fla.) and Aidan Ward (Dunstable, Mass.) were tied for the team lead with three wins on the mound with Ambrosino posting a 3.48 ERA. The Falcons also got strong pitching performances from Taryn Laramie (Franklin, HN) whose 34 strikeouts along with a 2.49 ERA led to a 1-1 record.

Since 1972, the MASCAC has been naming regular season champions and crowning tournament champions since 2001.

The winner of the MASCAC Championship will earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2021 Division III Baseball Championship.
