Falcons Fall To Bearcats At RussMatt Invitational

Wilson drives in a pair for Green and Gold

Auburndale, Fla. – The Fitchburg State University Baseball team suffered a tough 22-5 setback to the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Lake Myrtle Park Sports Complex.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when junior Jaime Velez (Lowell, Mass.) doubled to lead off the contest and scored on a throwing miscue. Saint Vincent responded with six runs on six hits in their half of the opening frame. Graduate student TJ Dailey (McMurray, Penn.) laced a two run double down the left field line, while senior Justin Wright (Greensburg, Penn.) added a two-run triple to make the score 6-1.

The Falcons trimmed the lead to 7-5 in the top of the third with senior Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) plating freshman Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, R.I.) before graduate student Jackson Vail (Grafton, Mass.) and newcomer Evan Wilson (Plymouth, Mass.) followed with RBI base knocks.

The Bearcats pushed its lead to 13-5 in the bottom of the third as Wright, junior Jordan Sabol (Export, Penn.) and senior Zach Barberich (Middletown, Md.) collected RBi base hits, while sophomore Billy Perroz (Vandergirft, Penn.) added a sacrifice fly.

Saint Vincent secured the victory in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Blake Marshall (Ocean City, Md.) singled home a run, while junior Cameron Hyde (Canonsburg, Penn.) and freshman Owen Kitts (Wellsville, Penn.) drew bases loaded walks, resulting in the 22-5 final.
