Falcons Downed by Rams of Cornell College

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Fitchburg State University baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to the Rams of Cornell College in non-conference action this morning at Chain O Lakes Stadium.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 5, Cornell 10
Records: Fitchburg State (1-7) | Cornell (3-6)

How It Happened

The Falcons took an early 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, RI) and senior Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Two batters later junior Anthony Silverio (Fitchburg, Mass.) laced a single to right-center plating both runners.

The Rams broke the game open with a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Darren Mancke (Oswego, Ill), Colin Konicek (West Dundee, Ill), and freshman Paxson Wright (Orland, Fla) each delivered RBI hits in the frame to extend the lead to 9-3.

The Green and Gold battled back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eramo stepped to the plate and smacked a 3-run home run to left field with Connor Morehouse (Wetherby Lake, Mo.) and Goldstein scoring on the play. Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 10-5, but that is as close as they would get.
