Lynx Race Past Falcons

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University baseball dropped a 9-7 decision to the Lynx of Lesley University in non-conference action this afternoon at Riccards Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 7, Lesley 9
Records: Fitchburg State (2-11) | Lesley (7-8)

How It Happened

Lesley took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Cal Caruso (Monroe, NY) doubled home freshman Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) and then came around to score on a single up the middle from Andrew Gryniewicz (Hollis, NH).

Grad student Richard Sharp (Townsend, Mass.) led off the second inning with a home run blast to left center field to cut the Falcons deficit to 2-1. In the bottom of the third inning senior Brendan Ferrell (Plymouth, Mass.) doubled to center field and eventually scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2.

Senior Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) continued his hot hand for the Falcons with a 2 RBI double to right field to give the Falcons a 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Trailing 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning the Lynx plated four runs to even the score. A double to center field from Colin McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.), a single from Ian Dempsey (Sarasota, Fla.), and a 2 RBI single from Dennett propelled Lesley.

The Falcons retook the lead in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from Christopher Masta (Peabody, Mass.), however, Lesley responded with a three-run in the eighth inning to forge ahead to the 9-7 final.
