Falcons Upended by Owls in Non-Conference Action

Keene, NH. – The Fitchburg State University baseball team dropped a 15-6  decision to the Owls of Keene State in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the top of the first when freshman Ethan Blanchette (San Antonio, Tex. )had an infield single with the bases full of Falcons for the 1-0 score. The Owls took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second with a 2-RBI single to center field from Nate Hudson (Florence, Vt.).

The Green and Gold evened the score in the top of the third inning. Sophomore Silas Thomas (Sequim, Washington) led off the frame with a single to right field and scored on a double to left-center from Connor Morehouse (Wetherby Lake, MO.).

Keene State blew open the game with five runs ( 4 unearned) in the bottom of the fifth inning and added another five runs in the sixth inning.

The Falcons chipped two runs across in the top of the seventh with RBI singles from Evan Wilson (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jackson Vail (Grafton, Mass.) but the hosts would add another three runs in the bottom of the inning en route to the 15-6 fina

Inside the Numbers

  • The Falcons used seven different pitchers on the afternoon. Freshman Robert Clarke (Plymouth, Mass.) suffered the loss surrendering five runs, 1 earned in two hits over 2.2 innings with 4 K's

  • Phil Nichols notched his first win of the season for the Owls, yielding two earned runs on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
