Falcons Drop Conference Tilt To Buccaneers

Ferrell notches pair of hits for Green and Gold

Buzzards Bay, Mass.. - The Fitchburg State University baseball dropped an 8-1 decision to the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Hendy Field.

How It Happened

Mass. Maritime took a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first as senior Aidan Henderson (Hanover, Mass.) laced a two-run single to left field to bring home sophomore AJ Pietrafesa (Harwinton, Conn.) and senior Alex Schlapak (Dover, N.H.).

The Buccaneers upped its lead in the following frame when senior A.J.Luciano (Lynn, Mass.) would cross the plate on a double steal attempt to make the score 3-0. Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the third with senior Zachary Morris (Salem, N.H.) drawing a one-out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Brendan Ferrell (Plymouth, Mass.) single to right field.

The hosts extended its margin (6-1) in the bottom of the third as senior Frank Aten (Brockton, Mass.) ripped a bases clearing double to left center to bring home Pietrafes, junior John Tropea (East Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Brett Velzis (Cypress, Tex.).

Mass. Maritime secured the victory in the bottom half of the sixth with senior Zach Sylvia (Brockton, Mass.) drawing a bases loaded walk that plated Tropea, resulting in the 8-1 final.
