Falcons Edged By Bears In Conference Action

Eramo and Sharp belt home runs for Green and Gold

Bridgewater, Mass. - The Fitchburg State University baseball suffered a tough 6-5 setback to the Bears of Bridgewater State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Alumni Park.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed an early 2-0 edge in the top of the first as sophomore Silas Thomas (Sequim, Wash.) before senior Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) blasted a two-run homer to left field for his team-leading sixth home run of the season.

Bridgewater State knotted the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second with senior Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull, Mass.) singling to through the left side, moved to second as junior Dan Saraceno (Mansfield, Mass.) was hit by a pitch before sophomore Eric Longley (Mansfield, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to left, while classmate Joe Frechette (Plymouth, Mass.) added a sacrifice bunt to score a run.

The Bears took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Frechette and sophomore Kevin Lindsay (East Bridgewater, Mass.) reached on a double and single before freshman Scott Emerson (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) notched RBI base knocks to make the score 5-2.

The Falcons retied the contest (5-5) in the top half of the eighth as graduate student Richard Sharp (Townsend, Mass.) launched a solo shot over the left field fence, while junior Zachary Malek (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with a single to left, stole second and scored on a throwing miscue before freshman Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, R.I.) looped an RBI single to right center.

With the scored tied at 5-5, the hosts secured the victory in the bottom of the eighth when Saraceno singled up the middle and came around to cross the plate on an RBI double to center field off the bat of junior Joey Molis (Cumberland, R.I.), resulting in the 6-5 final.
