How It Happened

MCLA freshman Robinson Guerrero-Baaez (Hyannis, Mass.) led off the game with a double to left-center field and crossed the plate on a triple from junior Tristen Ciarlo (Waterbury, Conn.). Junior Jayco Pena (Salem, Mass.) added a 2 RBI single down the left-field line to give the Trailblazers a 4-0 lead after one.

Leading 6-0, the visitors added four more runs in the sixth inning. With runners on second and third and a run already in senior Randy Adams (Fullerton, Ca.) poked a double to center field and scored two batters later on an RBI single from sophomore Ty Mazzeo (Averill Park, NY).

The Falcons battled back in the bottom of the frame. Richard Sharp (Townsend, Mass.) laced an RBI single to right field plating Connor Morehouse (Wetherby Lake, Mo.) who had walked to open the inning. Pinch-hitter freshman Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, Mass.) in only his 9th at-bat of the season, belted a 3-run home run over the rightfield fence to cut the deficit to 10-4. Freshman Evan Wilson (Plymouth, Mass.) added another run with an RBI single for the Green and Gold.

Trailing 12-5, Hurrell stepped to the plate and again clocked another big hit for the Falcons with a triple to left field scoring Sharp and Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.). Junior Zachary Malek (Schenectady, NY) added a sacrifice fly RBI to make it a 12-8 ballgame.

Down 12-9 in the bottom of the ninth, the Green and Gold capitalized on a pair of miscues from the Trailblazers' defense. Senior Brendan Ferrell (Plymouth, Mass.) opened with a single to centerfield, and freshman Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, RI) reached on an error to set the table for Silas Thomas (Sequim, Was.) who tripled to right field scoring both Ferrell and Goldstein. After an MCLA pitching change, Moorehouse tied the game (12-12) with a single up the middle. With the bases full of Falcons, Hurrell drew a walk for the walk-off win.
