How It Happened

Game One

Fitchburg State broke a 0-0 deadlock in the top of the sixth when sophomore Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, R.I.) laced a one-out double to left field, move to third on a single off the bat of junior Matthew Kelly (E. Westfield State nearly knotted the score in the bottom of the seventh as junior Trey Faulkner (Springfield, Mass.) drew a lead off walk, advance to second and third on a tag up and a throwing miscue, but Falcon hurler Orion Daily (Nantucket, Mass.) induced an inning ending groundout to preserve the 1-0 advantage.

The Owls answered back in the bottom of the ninth with Faulkner singling to left field and scoring on a double by junior Sean Clark (Dudley, Mass.) before freshman Alex Martin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in junior Nolan Florence (Chicopee, Mass.) with a sacrifice fly to left field, resulting in the 2-1 final.
