Falcons Drop MASCAC Match-Up to MMA

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State baseball team fell to the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy 14-3 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Friday afternoon at Riccards Field.

How It Happened

Down 2-0, the Falcons cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs Nolan Hills (Danvers, Mass.) singled up the middle and scored on a double to left center from Adam Koza (Windham, NH). The Green and Gold tied the score with an RBI single from Liam Goldstein (Charlestown, RI) in the bottom of the second.

Mass. Maritime added three runs in the bottom of the third inning and another two runs in the fourth inning to lead 7-2. Sophomore Michael Estrada (Covington, LA.) delivered a pair of sacrifice flies for RBIs.

The Bucs added three more runs in the seventh, with an RBI single from Frank Aten (Brockton, Mass.).

Trailing 14-2, Fitchburg State scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cole DuHaime (Warminster, Penn.) and Devin Lorae (Canton, Ga.) opened the frame with back-to-back singles. DuHaime scored on a pinch-hit single from sophomore Matthew Smith (Flanders, NJ).

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore Orion Daily (Nantucket, Mass.) took the loss for the Falcons allowing eight runs (5 earned) over six innings with 6 Ks and five walks.
  • Justin Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) earned his second victory of the season allowing two runs on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Chase Dwight (West Newbury, Mass.) picked up the save.
  • Koza, Kelly, and DuHaime each had two hits for the Falcons
  • Estrada was 2-for-2 for MMA with 3 RBI and a walk while AJ Pietrafesa (Harwinton, Conn.)  was 1-for-3 with three RBI
