Falcons Topped By Mammoths In Non-Conference Tilt

Eramo notches 100th career run scored for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Baseball team dropped a 15-7 decision to the Mammoths of Amherst College this afternoon in non-conference action from RIccards Field.

How It Happened

Amherst opened the scoring in the top of the first as sophomore Jack Sampedro (Miami, Fla.) walked, moved to on a fielding miscue before junior Luke Padian (Katonah, N.Y.) laced to a two run single to right center, scoring Sampedro and sophomore Jack McDermott (Larchmont, N.Y.) for the 2-0 lead.

The Mammoths upped the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second when junior Christian Fagrant (East Granby, Conn.) singled through the right side, stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch and crossing the plate on a throwing miscue.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second with sophomore Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, Mass.) doubling to right center before senior Zachary Malek (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with an RBI double to right center, scoring Hurrell.

The Green and Gold knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third as freshman Maxwell Kelly (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) walked advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt and single off the bat of senior Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.), while newcomer Adam Koza (Windham, N.H.) brought in Kelly with a groundout and Malek followed with an RBI single to left, scoring Eramo.

Amherst regained the lead in the top of the fourth, plating six runs with McDermott and junior Javier Irizarry (Amherst, Mass.) notching RBI's, while sophomore Jack Boyle (Staten Island, N.Y.) ripped a two-run single to center field to make the score 9-3.

Trailing 12-3, Fitchburg State responded in the bottom of the sixth when Kelly and sophomore Matthew Smith (Flanders, N.J.) walked before Eramo blasted a three-run shot to left center and Hurrell connected on a solo home run to right field to reduce the lead to 12-7.

The Mammoths secured the victory in the top of the seventh frame as senior Jack Dove (Norwalk, Conn.) brought in sophomore Ryan McIntyre (Tokyo, Japan) with an RBI groundout before senior Jackson Reydel (Marion, Mass.) added an RBI double that scored Irizarry, resulting in the 15-7 final.
