Golden Named Co-Defensive Player Of The Week

Montville, Conn. native earns first collegiate conference nomination

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 30, 2008) - Fitchburg State freshman Sean Golden (Montville, Conn./Montville) was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week as selected by conference officials. This nomination is Golden's third consecutive nomination and first Player of the Week honor.

This week, Golden led Fitchburg State to an impressive 41-34 victory over Framingham State College. The rookie collected five total tackles (three solo, two assists) and played clutch defense for the Falcons down the stretch. Golden broke up two consecutive passes in the end zone late in the fourth quarter and clinched the victory for Fitchburg State with a 36-yard interception. The newcomer added a fumble recovery in the final frame as well.

This season, Golden ranks first on the team with 32 tackles (13th overall NEFC) with 21 solo tackles and 11 assists in four games played. He has notched three fumble recoveries and forced one fumble. In addition, Golden has tallied one interception, one blocked kick and three defensive break ups.

Fitchburg State (1-3, 1-0 NEFC) will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to Bridgewater State College at 1:30 p.m.
