Bizzotto Earns NEFC Weekly Honor

Leominster, Mass. native named league's Defensive Player of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 26, 2009) - Junior Anthony Bizzotto (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week as selected by league officials Monday afternoon.

Bizzotto collects his first weekly honor of the season after pacing Fitchburg State in their record setting contest against Mass-Maritime Academy this past week. The Falcons combined with the Buccaneers to score 94 total points, the most ever witnessed in NEFC history.

Bizzotto led the Falcons defensively, posting a game-high 18 stops, including ten solo tackles and eight assists. The middle linebacker also tallied one tackle for a loss (TFL), while adding a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

This season, Bizzotto has been the Falcons playmaker on defense, leading the team with an amazing 75 stops (48 solo, 27 assists), including 6.5 TFLs and two sacks. The Leominster, Mass. native has also tallied two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Bizzotto has certainly made a name for himself in the highly competitive NEFC, ranking among league leaders in several categories. Currently, Bizzotto ranks fourth overall in total tackles (75), while ranking third in solo stops (48) and fourth in fumble recoveries (2).

The Fitchburg State football team (4-4, 2-3 NEFC) will be back in action next Saturday as it travels to Westfield State College at 12 p.m.
