Austin selected to play in Bowl of the Stars contest in Mexico City, December 19th

GRANBURY, TEXAS (December 2, 2009) - Senior running back Steve Austin (Tequesta, Fla./Stony Brook), a New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Conference first team honoree, was named to the Team Stars & Stripes roster for the 2009 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Saturday, December 19 on the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico.

Team Stars & Stripes, led by head coach Bill Manlove, has selected a provisional roster of 51 players, spanning over 35 colleges and 20 states. Austin proves to be a vital force to Team Stars & Stripes backfield after enjoying a successful senior season with 839 yards on the ground. The senior captain averaged nearly 100 yards per game with 4.6 yards per carry and five touchdowns.

The visiting team, comprised of NCAA DIII all-stars, will practice at the Tec Monterrey (CEM) facility in Atizapan de Zaragoza near Mexico City, from December 14 to 18 and will also visit the Aztec Pyramids and the nation's capital before facing their Mexican opponents.  Tec Monterrey is the premier private university system in Mexico, with campuses in numerous locations around the country.  Tec teams have captured eight of the past ten Liga Major football national championships. 

Representing Team Stars & Stripes will be players from: Adrian College, Alfred University, Augustana College, Bates College, Bethel University, Central College, Cornell College, Delaware Valley College, Dickinson College, Fitchburg State College, Franklin and Marshall, Hanover College, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Kean University, LaGrange College, Lebanon Valley College, McDaniel College, Menlo College, North Carolina Wesleyan College, North Central, Ohio Northern University, Salisbury University, St. Lawrence University, Susquehanna University, Thomas More, Trinity University, University of St. Thomas, University of Wisconsin - Eau Clair, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin - Stout, Ursinus College, Utica College, Washington University-St. Louis, Willamette University.
