De La Rosa Named To 2011 Aztec Bowl In Chihuahua, Mexico

Holyoke, Mass. native caps four-year Falcon career with All-Star award

FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 2, 2011) – Senior Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) will be representing the Fitchburg State University football team this weekend as he participates in the 2011 Division II/III All-Star Aztec Bowl in Chihuahua, Mexico.

De La Rosa, a four-year wide receiver for the Fitchburg State football team, was selected by the All-American Eagles as a Division III All-Star to compete against the Mexico All-Stars on Saturday, December 3rd. With his selection, De La Rosa joins a team of 42 individuals throughout all of Division II and III, earning the opportunity to perform in front of NFL scouts at Olympic Stadium in the University of Chihuahua, Mexico.

Over his career at the University, De La Rosa has cracked the Falcon record books, surpassing two programs records during the 2009 season with 17 career TD catches and ten single season scores. For his efforts, he was named to the NEFC All-Conference first team, Worcester All-Area first team, ECAC first team and Northeast Region All-Star honoree, totaling 1496 yards and 17 TD’s on 112 catches.

Frank Haege, six-year head coach of Augsburg College, was selected as the 2011 Head Coach of the All-American Eagles. He will be joined by Carl Hairston, 14-year veteran and former head coach of the National Football League (NFL), and Kurt Guriea, a 14-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl Champion.

The Aztec Bowl has been an NCAA-sanctioned post-season bowl game since the 1950’s, hosting numerous college division or Division III athletes throughout its time. The Division II/III All-Stars have posted a 10-1 mark over the last 11 meetings, while the Mexico All-Stars held a 13-11 edge vs. non-All Star teams.
