Fitchburg State Football Names Five To Worcester AA Team

Bizzotto headlines Falcon honorees with first team nomination

FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 15, 2011) – The Fitchburg State football team named five players to the 21st Annual Steve “Merc” Morris Worcester All-Area All-Star team as selected by the Sports Information Directors of the eight participating schools.

Seniors Anthony Bizzotto (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) headlined the list of Falcon honorees with his second consecutive first-team, nomination, while classmates Chris Rose (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville), Jeremy Kimber (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg), junior Bob Booth (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and freshman Steph’fon Teague (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) captured second team accolades.

In addition to his Worcester All-Area nod, Bizzotto earned another pair of post-season honors this year, being named to both the NEFC All-Conference first team and the Team Stars & Stripes roster for the 2011 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars). Bizzotto led both Fitchburg State and the New England Football Conference, totaling a league best 106 tackles with 63 solo stops and 43 assists.

This Saturday, Bizzotto will be in action as he takes the field with Team Stars and Stripes at the 5,000-seat El Tempo del Dolor (The Temple of Pain) in Puebla, Mexico. Bizzotto proves to be a vital force to Team Stars & Stripes line-backing core after averaging 11.8 tackles per game, exceeding all other players in the conference by an average of 1.8 tackles per game.

Joining Bizzotto on the Worcester All-Area team was defensive back Chris Rose, offensive guard Bob Booth, wide-receiver Jeremy Kimber and running-back Steph’fon Teague.

Rose also complete a strong senior campaign for Fitchburg State this year, leading the Falcons with four interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 47 tackles, while Booth anchored the Falcons offensive line from the guard position. Kimber registered a team-best 530 yards receiving and four touchdowns for his first All-Area nomination, while Teague posted 485 yards on the ground and three TD’s in a strong rookie season.

The Fitchburg State football team concluded the 2011 season with an overall record of 2-8 and a 1-6 mark in the New England Football Conference.
