Football Earns #1 Seed In ECAC Bowl Championships

Falcons to play second seeded Saxons in the Robert M. "Scotty" Whitelaw Bowl Championship

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team earned the number one seed into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) football championships as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The Falcons will take on the second seeded Saxons of Alfred University in the Robert M. "Scotty" Whitelaw Bowl Championship on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. with Central Connecticut State University playing host to the six ECAC Bowl Championship games over the weekend.

Fitchburg State recently tied the program's record for wins in a season, posting an overall record of 8-2 and  a 6-2 mark in the MASCAC, while Alfred's record stands at 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the Empire Eight.

The Falcons are led by junior quarterback Garrett Dellechiaie, who has thrown for 2,773 yards on 232-of-371 passing with 25 touchdowns, while the duo of senior wide receiver Ty Spencer and junior tight end Devin Summiel have combined for 95 receptions, 1,341 yards and 17 TD's. Defensively, senior linebacker Luis Feliz has totaled a team-leading 74 tackles, including 50 solo stops, five sacks, one fumble forced, two fumbles recovered and an interception.

For the Saxons, junior QB Tyler Johnson has completed 141-of-260 for 1,900 yards and 15 touchdowns through the air as well as rushing for 544 yards on 148 carries and nine touchdowns. Junior receiver Brendan Busch has caught a team-best 34 passes for 603 yards and seven touchdowns, while on the defensive side of the ball, senior linebacker Corry Wallace has posted a team-best 105 stops, including 52 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and three fumbles forced.
