Football Collects Nine All-Conference Awards

Watford tabbed MASCAC Defensive Rookie of the Year

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team named eight members to the 2015 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Teams as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman linebacker Cyrick Watford led all Falcon honorees after being selected MASCAC Football Defensive Rookie of the Year, while seniors Asante Easter, Luis Feliz and Taron Seaforth-Howard as well as juniors Malcolm Brown-Simpson and Devin Summiel were named to the MASCAC All-Conference first team

Senior defensive lineman Pedro Camilo, classmate Robert Braun and senior wide receiver Ty Spencer rounded out the Falcons All-Conference accolades, being named to the MASCAC All-Conference second team.

This season, Watford posted 25 tackles, including 17 solo stops, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and one fumble forced, while the duo of Feliz and Easter anchored the Fitchburg State defense all season, combining for 113 stops, 14 TFL's, two interceptions, eight passes defended, three fumbles recovered and three forced fumbles.

Seaforth-Howard and Brown-Simpson were also solid this season on the defensive side as Seafroth-Howard finished eighth on the squad with 30 stops, four picks, six pass breakups, one sack and one fumble recovered, while Malcolm registered 33 tackles (23 solo, ten assisted) with 7.5 TFL's, one sack, a fumble forced and one fumble recovered. Camilo rounded out the Falcons defensive honors after ranking third on the ream with 46 stops, 6.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two fumbles recovered and one fumble forced.

Offensively, Summiel finished with 47 catches for 712 yards and a single season Fitchburg State record 11 TD's, while averaging 15.1 yards per reception, while Spencer hauled in a team-leading 48 catches for 623 yards and  six TD's, currently ranking first all-time in receptions (163), receiving yards (2,270) and TD catches (21).

Braun rounded out the Green and Gold's All-Conference honoree's, after guiding the Falcons offense to 216 first downs, 1,421 rushing yards, 2,780 passing yards and 41 total touchdowns, while anchoring Fitchburg State's offensive line.

The Fitchburg State football team recently earned it first ECAC Football Bowl Championship appearance since the 2005 season after posting an 8-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark within conference play.
