Football Collects Six All-Conference Awards

Brown-Simpson named to MASCAC All-Conference 1st team

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team named six members to the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Teams as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior linebacker Malcolm Brown-Simpson was selected to the MASCAC All-Conference first team, while classmates Ousmane Samb, Mamour Samb and Christopher Ludwig as well as sophomores Herbert Acosta and Cyrick Watford were all named to the MASCAC All-Conference second team.

This season, Brown-Simpson posted 55 tackles, including 32 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, two fumbles forced, one fumble recovered and an interception, while the duo of O. Samb and M.Samb anchored the Fitchburg State defense all season, combining for 141 stops, 16.5 TFL's,1.5 sacks, three fumbles forced and four fumble recoveries.

Watford rounded out the Falcons defensive honors after ranking fifth on the team with 51 tackles, including 29 solo stops, three sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovered, one fumble forced and a blocked kick.

On special teams, Acosta returned five kicks for 87 yards (17.4) as well as returning 17 punts for 194 yards (11.4), while also hauling in 30 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns. Ludwig concluded the 2016 season averaging 36.8 yards per punt (66 punts for 2,427 yards) with 25 punts inside the 20, while also converting 13-of-21 PAT's to go along with a pair of field goals for the Green and Gold.

The Fitchburg State football team recently concluded its 2016 campaign with an overall record of 5-5 and a 3-5 mark in the MASCAC.
