Plymouth Claws Past Football

PLYMOUTH, NH: Fitchburg State football fell to the Panthers of Plymouth State in MASCAC action this afternoon.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 10/14/23

- Score: Plymouth 40, Fitchburg 21

- Records: Plymouth (1-5, 1-3 MASCAC), Fitchburg (0-7, 0-5 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons second drive led to the first score of the game after going 12 plays for 71 yards in 6:14. The long drive was capped off by an 11-yard TD reception by Matthew Aguirre (Laredo, TX). After the extra point, the Falcons found themselves up 7-0. That lead was cut to just one very quickly after, as the Panthers would return the following kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

- Plymouth would score two more times before the half. The first touchdown came on a 16-yard pass and catch by Jon Proia. The second was a Daeon Lynch four-yard rush, giving Plymouth a 19-7 lead going into the break.

- The second half started with two more touchdowns by the Panthers. Their opening drive of the half was capped off by Willie Lombard on a breakaway 34-yard run. The next came on another special team's blunder by the Falcons. Jake Dreyfus scooped and scored on a punt that was blocked by Plymouth from seven yards out.

- The third quarter would end with Fitchburg stopping the Panther run and finding the endzone for the second time today. Rocky Marchitelli (Gunnison, CO) found Peter Norton (Marblehead, MA) for a seven-yard touchdown completion, making the score 33-14.

- Plymouth would open up the fourth quarter with their last touchdown of the day on a Tyler Kayo three-yard rush. After the extra point, the Panthers found themselves up 40-14.

- The Falcons would get the last points of the day, getting the final of 40-21. Fitchburg moved the ball well in this one, going 89 yards on 12 plays and 5:49. Oriowokite Fatoke (Worcester, MA) broke the goal line after receiving Marchitelli's third TD toss of the game. This one came from seven yards out.
