Football Taken Down by Wolves

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State football was defeated by Western Connecticut in MASCAC action this afternoon. 

THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/4/23

- Score: Western Connecticut 54, Fitchburg 0

- Records: Fitchburg State (0-9,0-7 MASCAC), Western Connecticut (7-2, 7-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons received the opening kickoff, but their first drive was cut short due to a scoop and score by Western Connecticut defensive end Kile Jackson. The first quarter continued to be dominated by the Wolves, with two rushing touchdowns by running back Chad Blaszky and a receiving touchdown by wide receiver Julian Ferguson.

-  The second quarter was completely controlled by the defenses, and it started with Fitchburg State cornerback Jayelinn Miller (Tacoma, WA) picking off his second interception of the season. But the second quarter closed out with a 54-yard pick-six by Western Connecticut defensive back Mileeq Green, making the score 33-0 Western Connecticut at halftime. 

-In the third, the only score of the quarter happened when a Keion Jones pass was tipped at the line and caught by center Desmond Sampson for a very rare 3-yard touchdown reception for the center.

-  The two scores that came out of the 4th quarter were a passing touchdown by Western Connecticut's second QB of the game, Dylan Jackson, and a rushing touchdown by running back Kamryn Holmes, finishing the game with a score of 54-0 Western Connecticut over the Falcons.

-  Passing: Western Connecticut 233, Fitchburg 65

-  Rushing: Western Connecticut 208, Fitchburg 41

-  Sacks: Western Connecticut 3, Fitchburg 0
