Bio

Gates is in his fourth season with the Fitchburg State football team after coaching at rival Worcester State from 2008 to 2011.

While at Worcester State, Gates served as the quarterback coach while being named the team's Offensive Coordinator for the 2011 season. Prior to Worcester, Gates spent three seasons on the Falcons' sideline, coaching quarterbacks in ’04 and ’05 and defensive backs in ’06. Gates led the Falcons to numerous passing records, while also guiding Fitchburg State to a pair of appearances in the New England Football Conference Championship game and in ECAC bowl.

In 2006, Gates enjoyed a run as an assistant coach for the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League, working with the Defensive Backs. The Crush made the payoffs and lost to the eventual Arena Bowl champs, the Chicago Rush.

As a player, Gates enjoyed stints playing quarterback with both the Lancers and Falcons, while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at FSU. A Fitchburg native, Coach Gates currently works as a Guidance Counselor for a therapeutic high school in Eastern Massachusetts, and resides in Leominster with his wife Sarah, daughter Daniella and son Owen.
