Fitchburg State Stuns Framingham State, 1-0 (2OT)

Ta. Van Ahnen leads Falcons with season-best 17 saves in net

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 4, 2008) - The Fitchburg State field hockey collected a hard fought 1-0 double overtime victory over Framingham State College in Little East Conference action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Sophomore Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) led the Fitchburg offense with the lone Falcon goal while senior Eleni Aidonidis (Winchendon, Mass./Saint Bernard's) chipped in with the assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) led the Falcons defensively, posting a season-high 17 saves in her fifth victory of the season. Van Ahnen's 17 saves is the second most all-time for single game saves, only trailing former Falcon Emily Creen, who tallied 19 against UMass Dartmouth in the 2006 season.

After two scoreless regulation halves and a silent overtime period, Fitchburg State broke the game's scoring drought as Jacobs connected for her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Aidonidis.

Framingham State pressured the Fitchburg State defense throughout the contest, holding a 27-10 advantage in shots (11-5 in OT), but Taylor Van Ahnen posted ten saves in the two overtime periods to preserve her fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) totaled seven stop for the Rams.

Fitchburg State (5-4, 3-2 LEC) is back in action on Tuesday as it hosts Eastern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m. Framingham State (4-3, 1-3 LEC) will host Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
