Jacobs posts a career-high seven points in Falcons second victory of the season

BOSTON, Mass. (September 8, 2009) - Junior Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) tallied a career-high seven points as Fitchburg State rolled to a 9-1 victory over Wheelock College in non-conference action this evening.

Junior Megan Jacobs tallied a
career-best seven points in the
Falcons victory.

Jacobs led the high-firing Fitchburg State attack with two goals and three assists, while sophomore Kaylee Bergeron (Acushnet, Mass./New Bedford) tallied her first career hat-trick for the Falcons. Senior Paula Bartalamia (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) was also solid offensively with two markers, while classmates Eleni Aidonidis (Winchendon, Mass./) and Vanessa Truax (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) rounded out the Falcons scoring with one goal apiece.

Fitchburg State grabbed a commanding 7-0 lead at the break, including an impressive 3-0 advantage just 9:08 into the contest. Bartalamia started the Falcon scoring surge just 1:50 into the match as she recorded a penalty corner goal off assists from Jacobs and Truax. Moments later, Truax connected for her second goal of the season before Bartalamia found the net again to give the Falcons the three goal edge.

The Green and Gold continued their offensive pursuit, scoring four more times in the half to secure their second victory of the season. Aidonidis sparked the second Falcon rally with a tally at the 12:06 mark while Bergeron rifled off three consecutive goals to close out the first half scoring.

In the second frame, Wheelock broke its scoring silence as freshman Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) netted a goal in the 43rd minute, but Jacobs ended any Wildcat rally with back-to-back scores to close out the contest.

Fitchburg State dominated the offensive front, exploding for 34 shots and six penalty corners through the match. Freshman Abbie Brown (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) earned her second victory in net for the Falcons, posting four saves in the complete game effort. Junior Meredith Race (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester) stopped 22 shots in net for the Wildcats.
