Roma Earns LEC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

Foxborough, Mass. native collects first weekly honor of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 12, 2010) – Fitchburg State senior Mari Roma (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Roma earns her first weekly honor of the season after leading the Fitchburg State field hockey team to a strong 2-1 week. The senior captain notched 12 points throughout the week, posting six goals, including her first hat-trick of the season in a 7-1 win over Rivier College. Two days later, Roma turned in her second multi-goal effort in a 5-1 win over Lasell, while adding a single score in the Falcons 2-1 setback to Bridgewater State.

This season, Roma ranks second on the Falcons squad in scoring, posting 27 points on a team-high 12 goals and three assists. She has guided the Falcons offense to the top of the Little East, ranking among league leaders in goals (3rd), goals per game (3rd), points per game (4th), and game-winning markers (1st).

The Fitchburg State field hockey team (7-4, 4-3 LEC) will be back in action on Thursday as it travels to Nichols College at 7 p.m.
