Field Hockey Collects DIII National Academic Team Honors

Falcons earn first National Academic Team Award

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 20, 2014) – The Fitchburg State field hockey team was recently awarded the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) earlier this week.

The Falcons earned their first Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA team accolade with this selection, registering a cumulative GPA of 3.05 throughout the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year en-route to concluding the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 6-11.

In addition to the National Academic Team Award, senior Kelly Finn (Fitchburg, Mass.), junior Kaitlyn Silva (West Townsend, Mass.), sophomore Erin Martin (Douglas, Mass.) and freshmen Mallory Griczika (Barre, Mass.), Jessica Lawrence (Taunton, Mass.), Emily Petit (Southwick, Mass.), and Alyssa Wyson (Lunenburg, Mass.) all earned NFCHA Individual Academic Awards for achieving a GPA of 3.3 or higher during the 2013 fall semester.

The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
