Fitchburg State Rebounds Over Regis, 3-0

Bush nets a pair of goals in Falcons second victory of the season

WESTON, Mass. (September 17, 2013) – Senior midfielder Rebecca Bush (Littleton, Mass.) registered a pair of goals as the Fitchburg State field hockey defeated Regis College, 3-0 in non-conference action at the Regis College Athletic Complex.

In the first period, Fitchburg State took the lead at the 27:28 mark when Bush connected for her first marker of the season off an assist from junior Kaitlyn Silva (West Townsend, Mass.). Silva inserted the ball off a penalty corner to Bush at the top of the circle and fired a shot into the back of the cage for the 1-0 margin.

The Falcons doubled their lead (2-0) just before the break, converting on another penalty corner as Bush blasted a shot from just inside the circle for her second tally of the game off feeds from newcomer Stephanie Stearns (Mystic, Conn.) and junior Amber Nunes (West Wareham, Mass.). Stearns inbounded the ball to Nunes at the top of the circle, who then slid it over to Bush for the goal.

Following the break, Fitchburg State added an insurance goal in the 57th minute of play as Silva collected a rebound off the stick of freshman Madeline Hoffman (Mansfield, Mass.) and deposited the ball into the net for her first score of the year to make the score 3-0.

Throughout the match, Fitchburg State held a 12-8 advantage in shots, including a 7-5 margin in shots on target. In goal, junior Lucy Holewa (Londonderry, N.H.) and sophomore Judith Valentin (Brockton, Mass.) combined to registered five saves in 70 minutes of work for the Falcons, while sophomore Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) made 4 stops in the complete game effort for Regis.

Fitchburg State (2-2, 0-1 LEC) will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts the Wildcats of Bay Path College at 7 p.m. Regis (0-6, 0-0 NECC) will host Colby-Sawyer on Thursday for a match starting at 6 p.m.
