Field Hockey Earns Four LEC All-Academic Honors

Lawrence, Martin, Petit and Silva named to the LEC All-Academic Team

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Senior Kaitlyn Silva, junior Erin Martin and sophomores Jessica Lawrence and Emily Petit were recently named to the 2014 Little East Conference Fall All-Academic team as announced by the league office Thursday morning.

Members of the 2014 LEC All-Academic team must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the 2014 spring semester and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The student-athlete must also be a full-time member of a varsity sport and be enrolled in its institution for a full academic year.

Silva, a four-year member of the Fitchburg State field hockey team, achieved a grade point average of 3.73 with a major in Special Education to earn her third straight nomination, while Martin earned her second nomination with a GPA of 3.55 in the field of English.

Lawrence collects her first accolade of the season, earning a grade point average of 3.53 within the field of Nursing, while Petit also earned her first nomination, achieving a 3.31 GPA with a major in Nursing.

This season, Silva helped lead the Falcons offense, registering three points on one goal and one assist in 17 appearances, while Petit saw action in all 18 contests for the Green and Gold from the midfield.

Martin helped anchor Fitchburg State's backline in holding opponents to a minimal 1.31 goals per contest over the course of 17 starts, while Lawrence also played a pivotal role on the defensive front, playing in ten games for the Falcons.

The Fitchburg State field hockey team concluded its 2014 campaign with an overall record of 8-10 and a 3-8mark in the LEC.
