Fitchburg State To Host Third Annual “Play For The Cure” Game
Field hockey joins fight against breast cancer on Saturday October 11th
FITCHBURG, Mass. – In coordination with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Fitchburg State field hockey team will be hosting its third annual "Play 4 the Cure" game on Saturday, October 11th, as the Falcons hosts the Panthers of Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) match-up at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, October 11th the Fitchburg State field hockey team will team up with the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) to participate in its fundraising campaign entitled "Play 4 the Cure", in which sports teams across the country are invited to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game to the NFCR.
The Play 4 the Cure movement, created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director and head coach Tina Reinprecht, is dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx Field Hockey Club who fought the fight against breast cancer. Recently the National Foundation for Cancer Research teamed up with the "Play 4 the Cure" movement, enabling athletes to support NFCR's efforts in funding cancer research and to provide cancer prevention education as well as early detection information to the public.
In honor of Fitchburg State's "Play 4 the Cure" day, the Fitchburg State University field hockey team will be selling t-shirts and bracelets, while also collecting donations at halftime of Saturday afternoon's contest as well as wearing pink socks in support of this cause. All Falcon fans are encouraged to wear their favorite pink gear and support the Fitchburg State field hockey team in their fight against breast cancer.
