Richard and Miller propel Fitchburg State to non-conference victory
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team defeated the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College, 2-1 in overtime in non-conference action this evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Colby-Sawyer opened the scoring with just under two minutes remaining in the first half as sophomore midfielder Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine/York) fired a shot that found its way through traffic and inside the near post for her fourth tally on the season for the 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) in the 44th minute of play when senior midfielder Bailey Miller (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) collected a feed from classmate Casey Noonan and tucked the ball into the lower left corner for her third marker of the year to force overtime.
In the overtime period, the Green and Gold broke the 1-1 stalemate at the 82:59 mark as junior forward Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass./St. Bernard's) converted a fast break opportunity, depositing the ball into the right side of the net for her first tally on the season, resulting in the 2-1 final.

Second meeting between the two schools with the Falcons collecting a 4-0 win in the first ever meeting between Fitchburg State and Colby-Sawyer last season.
Colby-Sawyer held a 22-15 advantage in shots, while also finishing with a slim 9-8 edge in penalty corners.
In the cage, Fitchburg State sophomore keeper Rhiannon Fletcher (Royalston, Mass./Anna Maria) stopped 12 shots for Falcons, while freshman Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) made save saves for the Chargers.
