Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to the Owls of Keene State College in Little East Conference action on Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Keene State dominated play in the first half firing off 9 shots in the Falcons defensive zone. Green and Gold's sophomore keeper Rhiannon Fletcher (Roylaston, Mass.) turned away 6 shots and senior Jillian Schultze (Winchendon, Mass.) had a defensive save to keep it a 0-0 game after 35 minutes.

The second half continued with the Owls strong play, and with just 10 ticks remaining before overtime freshman Nina Bruno (Agawam, Mass.) collected a pass from senior Casi Smith (Merrimack, Mass) and deposited the game-winner into the left corner past the Falcons defense.

Inside the Numbers

Owls head coach Amy Watson collected her 400th win.

Bailey Miller (Leominster, Mass.) paced the Falcons with one shot on net.

Falcons' sophomore Kasey Mammone (Leominster, Mass.) had three saves in the loss.

Owls' goaltender Rachel Loseby (Harford, Vt.) posted one save for her collegiate win.

This is the 32nd meeting between the two schools with the Falcons 6-26-0 when taking on the Owls.

Keene State has won the last 14 meetings against Fitchburg State. Last time Fitchburg State defeated Keene was on September 27th, 2004 by a score of 2-1.

Fitchburg State sophomore goalkeepers Rhiannon Fletcher (0.84) and Kasey Mammone (1.00) rank first and second overall in the LEC in goals against average.
