Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Western Connecticut State College in Little East Conference action on Tuesday evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

With time running out in the first half, the Colonials were awarded a penalty corner. Western Connecticut's freshman Kimberly Brower (Mahopac, NY) injected the ball to sophomore Morgan Matthews (Bethel, Conn.) at the top of the circle, whose drive was re-directed by Brower past Falcons' netminder Kasey Mammone (Leominster, Mass.) with no time on the clock for the 1-0 lead at intermission.

The Falcons had an early opportunity to knot the game when Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass.) was award a penalty shot, however Colonials goaltender Neve Manion (Newington, Conn.) turned away the shot to preserve the Western Connecticut advantage.

Fitchburg State University dominated the second half, peppering Manion with 13 shots to no avail as the visitors escaped with the win.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State University held the advantage in shots (22-40 and corners (7-4).

Manion posted 13 saves for her third win of the season.

Richard led the Green and Gold with 5 shots on goal.

12th meeting between the two schools in field hockey with the Falcons 8-3 when taking on the Colonials.

Falcons have won last two meeting with Colonials and three of previous four match ups.

Fitchburg State senior defender Jillian Schultze (Winchendon, Mass.) currently leads the LEC in defensive saves with three defensive stops.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, the Falcons travel to Becker College for a 4:00pm contest, while the Colonials head to Rampo for a 4:00pm mat
