Falcons Upend Rams, 5-3

DeHorsey and Richard net two goals each for Falcons in key LEC victory

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team defeated the Rams of Framingham State University, 5-3 in Little East Conference (LEC) action this afternoon at the Maple Street Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage as sophomore forward Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.) found the back of the net twice in the first 20 minutes of play for her team-leading sixth and seventh tallies on the season.

Following a marker by Framingham State's Bailey Donnelly (Framingham, Mass.) that cut the deficit to 2-1. The Falcons answered back on back-to-back score from junior Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass.) to up the visitor's margin to 4-1.

The Rams responded just before the half however when sophomore Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) collected a feed from classmate Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) and deposited the ball into the back of the cage for her third goal of the year to make the score 4-2 going into the break.

In the second half, Framingham State cut into the lead again as senior Annie Souza (Taunton, Mass.) struck for her third marker of the year, but the Green and Gold tacked on an insurance goal with five minutes left in the contest when sophomore Sophia Laperle (Auburn, Mass.) one timed a shot into cage for her third score of the season off an assist Richard, resulting in the 5-3 final.

38th meeting between two schools in field hockey with the Falcons 21-14-3 when taking on the Rams.

Fitchburg State has won seven of the last ten contests against Framingham State.

Sophomore goaltender Rhiannon Fletcher (Royalston, Mass.) stopped eight shots for the Falcons, while junior Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) made 16 saves for the Bears in the complete game effort.

Fitchburg State finished with a 24-12 edge in shots, while also holding a slim 7-6 margin in penalty corners.

With her two goals today, Richard moved into third place on the Falcons All-Time career goals list with 37 career markers.
