Noonan collects lone goal for Falcons in LEC setback

 

Willimantic, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a tough 3-1 decision to the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University in Little East Conference (LEC) action this evening at the Mansfield Complex.

How It Happened

Eastern Connecticut State took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back tallies from senior Katie Calnen (Granby, Conn.) at the 16:12 mark and in the 24th minute of play, before Fitchburg State cut the deficit in half with just over five minutes left in the opening frame as senior Casey Noonan (Feeding Hills, Mass.) struck for her second tally on the year to make the score 2-1 going into the break.

Following intermission, the Warriors tacked on an insurance marker when senior Alex Kalgren (Dudley, Mass.) took a feed from junior Erin Sheehan (North Branfield, Conn.) and found the back of the cage for her team-leading fifth goal of the season, resulting in the 3-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

18th meeting between two schools in field hockey with the Falcons 9-9-0 when taking on the Warriors.

Warriors have won five of the last six contests against the Green and Gold.

Sophomore goaltender Kasey Mammone (Leominster, Mass.) turned away six first half shots for the Falcons in the setback, while senior Maddie LaRusso (Enfield, Conn.) made six saves for the Warriors in the complete game effort.

Eastern Connecticut finished with a slim 11-10 margin in shots, while the Green and Gold held a 10-5 margin in penalty corners.
