Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team suffered a tough 2-0 setback to the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University this morning in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field

How It Happened

Eastern Connecticut State grabbed the 1-0 lead at the 8:25 mark of the first period as freshman Liz LaMarco (West Hartford, Conn.) fired a shot inside the near post for her third goal of the 2021 campaign.

Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score in the 18th minute of action when senior Sarah Craig (Ashburnham, Mass.) redirected a shot off the stick of sophomore Sophia Piper (Chelmsford, Mass.), but the shot went just wide to keep the score at 1-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Warriors threatened at the 35:02 mark with sophomores Isabel Sanchez (Weston, Conn.) and Kaylee Drobish (Wallingford, Conn.) putting a shots on frame, but Falcon keeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) turned the first shot aside, while junior Hannah Walters (Danielson, Conn.) added a defensive save.

Eastern Connecticut State secured the victory at the 50:49 mark as Sanchez received a fed from graduate student Brianna Nolan (Watertown, Conn.), who then deposited a shot into the left side of the cage for her third mark of the season, resulting in the 2-0 final.
