Field Hockey Clipped By Pilgrims In Non-Conference Action

Yates nets lone goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Pilgrims of New England College in non-conference action this evening from the Don Melander Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, New England College 2

Records: Fitchburg State (3-10, 2-5 MASCAC) | New England College (9-7, 7-3 GNAC)

How It Happened

New England College opened the scoring at the 16:05 mark of the second period as junior Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, RI) collected a feed from graduate student Drea Chin (Laconia, NH) struck for her eighth tally on the year for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 roughly 50 seconds later when sophomore Sophia Yates (Woodstock, Vt) redirected a pass from classmate Samantha Yates (Woodstock, Vt) into the lower right corner for her third score of the 2023 campaign.

The Pilgrims regained the lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half with graduate student Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, MA) receiving a feed from McCamish and depositing a shot into the left side of the cage for her eighth goal of the season to make the score 2-1 going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Green and Gold nearly retied the contest with eight minutes left in regulation as Yates blasted a pair of shots on frame, but both scoring chances were blocked, resulting in the 2-1 final.
