London nets a game-high 22 points despite Falcons conference loss

FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 16, 2010) -Senior Colin London (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) netted a game-high 22 points to lead Fitchburg State, but the Falcons dropped their second conference match of the season, falling to Bridgewater State, 68-59 this afternoon.

with a game-high 22 points.

London nearly collected a double-double for Fitchburg State adding eight boards and four assists to his 9-of-17 shooting performance, but Bridgewater State received double-digit efforts from Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass./Everett), Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven) and Nathan Miller (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) to improve to 8-5 on the season (3-0 MASCAC).

Fitchburg State held a slim two point advantage at the break led by London's seven first-half points, but Bridgewater State opened the scoring midway through the second period, using an 8-0 run at the 5:12 mark to gain a nine point advantage (55-46). Jackson led the Bears second half charge with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, while Motta added nine points and five boards.

The Bears capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 14-of-17 attempts throughout the contest, while Fitchburg State struggled with 5-of-14 shooting from the charity stripe. Jackson led all Bears scorers with a team-best 17 points and eight caroms, while Motta and Miller added 12 points and ten points respectively.

London sparked the Falcons offense with his game-best 22 points, while junior Rolffi Canela (Perth Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) added nine points and two steals. Freshman Blake Sheldon (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) rounded out the Falcons top three scorers with eight points on 2-of-7 shooting from downtown.

Fitchburg State (4-10, 0-2 MASCAC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts Worcester State at 5:30 p.m. Bridgewater State (8-5, 3-0 MASCAC) will host Trinity College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
