Ingram-Rubin totals a team-best 21 points in loss for the Falcons

NASHUA, N.H. (December 10, 2013) – Sophomore Ryan Gauthier (Nashua) tallied a game-high 23 points including 18 in the first half with six three-pointers and Eric Webster (Oakland, Cal.) notched 18 points guiding host Daniel Webster past Fitchburg State, 83-69 in a regional matchup Tuesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Daris Cosby (Albany, N.Y.) picked up 14 points, draining four from outside, as the Eagles remained undefeated improving to 8-0 continuing its best ever start and topped the Falcons for the first time since 2010.

Ray Farmer (Nashua) chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds for the winners while Kevin Perez (Nashua) also dropped in nine points and handed out seven assists.

Mike Ingram-Rubin (Boston) led the Falcons (0-8) with 21 points while Anthony Muccioli (Nashua) added 16 and four steals. Josh Imadiyi (Lynn. Mass.) picked up a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Malcolm Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched 11 points.

Mo Molin (Brockton, Mass.) led all rebounders with 15 for the Falcons, and added eight points.

DWC trailed only twice in the opening minutes and never fell behind after taking a 9-4 lead early on. Despite being outrebounded 44-42 and giving up 34 points defensively in the paint, the hosts made up for it shooting 52-percent in the first half on the way to shooting 47-percent overall, picked up 25 points off turnovers, and moved the ball to the tune of an 18-7 advantage in total assists.

DWC used an 11-2 run keyed by threes from Cosby and Gauthier to break a nine-all tie before the 13 minute mark and a Farmer layup gave DWC its largest lead of the first at 13 (28-15) with 9:09 gone. The red and white led by nine at the break.

Trailing by 13, Fitchburg made a run in the second with an 8-0 spurt behind treys from Muccioli and Ingram-Rubin for a 56-51 game with 13:11 left, but Cosby drained two more from outside to get the lead back to nine, Webster went inside, and another Gauthier trifecta sparked a game-changing 14-4 run ending with layups from Aiden Collins and Farmer for a 73-57 advantage with 5:18 remaining.

Fitchburg made one final run – another 8-0 charge – with buckets from Imadiyi, Molin and Dixon for a 73-65 game with 2:31 left, but Webster converted inside and DWC helped force two key turnovers while holding the Falcons to four points over the final two minutes to re-up the lead to as many as 16.

The Eagles play game three of a four-game home stand on Saturday when they host Fisher in a NCAA-NAIA crossover matchup tipping off at 6:00 p.m. Fitchburg is off until January 4th when they visit Anna Maria at Noon.
